Our home lactation visits are led by Tamara Hawkins. She is an NYS licensed and registered nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant currently preparing to become a Functional Medicine provider with The Institue of Functional Medicine after completing Dr. Aviva Romm's Women's Integrative and Functional Medicine Professional Training Program.
Home visits are offered in New Jersey and NYC. PPE including the N95 mask is worn by the practitioner. Parents should not make an appointment if anyone in the home, other than the lactating mother, has tested positive for COVID within the past 10 days, has active coughing, or feels sick for any reason. If mother is not feeling well, she is required to wear a mask during our visit.
Visits include maternal physical exam including b/p, weight and temperature check, cesarean incision and extremity swelling assessment, full physical assessment of newborn including symmetry of face and head, function, and appearance of the tongue, examination of infant's suck and milk intake during breastfeeding.
A written plan is made alongside parents to meet their goals. Experience in twins, tongue tie, low milk supply, nipple and breasts infections, weaning, exclusive pumping, inducing lactation, and anything in between.
Insurance is not accepted for home visits with Lactation House Calls. For insurance covered virtual visits see https://tamarahawkins.as.me/
